About Us
Our Story
In 2023 our founder was leading efforts to build a secondary school in Binga Zimbabwe using crowdsourced resources. The district is considered one of the poorest in the country. He noticed that the people of Binga were very good basket weavers however they were selling these baskets for very cheap along the road.
A few of their baskets were being sold on international markets for 5-10x the price. Unfortunately most of them have no access to the internet or the ability to ship independently to international buyers. This lack of access means most of them remain poor and mostly survive on charity even though their talents could enable them to send their children to school and to survive well.
It is with this in mind that Tarooka was developed. In its primary form it is a platform for artisans to reach buyers across the world. We also strive to provide assistance to handcrafters from poor countries to have access to international buyers.
Currently Tarooka is available to buyers in the USA only but we intend to expand to other markets as soon as possible.
Our Solution
Tarooka was created to solve the issue of access to international market for artisans. Most consumers in countries like USA, Canada and those from European Union expect fast delivery of their purchases which is something international artisans cannot do due to distance. Tarooka provides a fulfillment chain that has warehouses close to the market.
Artisans can apply on our platform to be sellers. Tarooka reviews each application to ensure that each seller meets the requirements and standards that we expect. International creatives can either ship their products directly to our warehouses or they can drop them at any one of our drop-centers if available in their country.
Once their products are sold, sellers can request a payout from Tarooka via the platform.
