A few weeks ago we were in downtown Cincinnati attending an Afro-Caribbean party hosted by DJ TizieB. The vibe was good - the music and the food was just on point. Folks were waltzing and bouncing to the titillating reverberations of the typical bass from Amapiano music. We had a decent booth where we sold a number of item from our warehouses. Every angle had beautiful souls having a good time.
This gorgeous lady walks up to our booth, grabs a necklace, then spots this custom Beaded White Zulu Hat Isicholo White and Gold Zulu Hat - African Crown we had on display.
"Wait, is that a hat?" she asks.
"Yeah, it's a Zulu bride hat, made by Succille Handcrafts," I tell her.
She picks it up, my wife helps her put it on, and she turns around and goes:
"Ask my husband behind you if this looks good on me."
I turn around and there's this guy just fully checked out, staring at the dancefloor like he's watching a movie. The guy was totally oblivious of what was going on around him. He was sucking the moment in.
"Bro. How does your wife look in that hat?"
He looks at me like I just asked him to solve a math problem.
"Huh?"
That's when it hit me — this man had no idea who this woman was. I checked over my shoulders and caught a cheeky smile from the lady. She wasn't backing off.
"Bro," I said, "that lady right there says she's your wife. If she's not... you might want to go say hi."
He hesitated for a second. She smiled at him. And that was it, they started talking.
I left them to it, but not before slipping both of them a business card.
"When y'all get married, don't forget to invite us."
Wherever they are, I hope they connected and something good came out of it.
